Read the front page story in the Dallas Morning News on August 27, 2008 about uninsured Texans who can't get or otherwise afford insurance or healthcare. Approximately 20% of Texans have no coverage - the Nation's highest.
Also read in the same story what McCain Health care Advisor John Goodman says. Goodman runs the National Center for Policy Analysis, a right leaning "think tank" located in Dallas. Basically Goodman thinks Texas' uninsured is a myth, just like Global Warming. The science just isn't there apparently for Goodman.
If you want to know what the McCain Health care program is going to be like, just read this article. It'll scare the Hell out of you. Goodman is the Joseph Mengele of Republican "Conservative Compassion". E.R.'s alone, should be good enough for America's poor and middle class. If the ER doc refers you to an oncologist, surgeon, gastroenterologist, or other specialist, well too bad... they won't see you without insurance; and even with insurance, you're still going to have a fight on your hands.
A friend of our family, who's over 62, is a cancer survivor. Because of the cancer she couldn't get Medicare supplemental insurance, at any price. Now a cancer has returned. Halfway through her chemotherapy, the cancer center at McAlester Regional Health Center, told her they could no longer continue her life-saving chemo treatment. The reason they gave, was no supplemental health insurance. They turned her away. The treatments unfinished. With no options left, she will go home to continue her illness without treatment. Her future is bleak.
My cousin, a nurse, asked the hospital administration what this was about and was told they were perfectly within their rights, and that hospitals do this all the time across America.Think about that.
