No Guaranteed Change

There is no guarantee that if Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama become the next President that significant change will happen at all. I did not mention Mr. McCain because as far as I can tell he offers no change at all. It is not because Obama or Clinton are not committed to changing the current domestic & foreign policies, but because in order to do any thing he or she must have the support of Congress. As long as the current crops of 49 Republican Senators remain in office they will continue to block passage of needed legislation to reverse the failed policies of the Bush Administration.

We all know that Congress’ recent history indicates that partisanship is the norm & no significant legislation to produce change can occur. Voters must change the make up of Congress. How you ask? Re shuffle, change the balances in the Senate. The House’s balance was changed in 2006. As long as there is a 49 to 51 ratio of senators who remain primarily partisan. Change is not going to happen.

No change in Health Care. The Senate abandoned the 47 million uninsured & denied coverage to children in need.

No Change in the economy. 2.2 Million Americans face losing their homes because Senators have refused to pass any foreclosure assistance.

No change in energy. Big Oil is raking in billions in federal subsides while millions are forced to choose between gas and groceries.

No change in Terrorism. Al-Qaeda is resurgent in Afghanistan & Pakistan & the number of jihadists worldwide continues to grow.

No change in the military occupation of Iraq. Now spending $275 million a day & committing our troops to ever increasing casualties and a war without end.

No change on global warming. Climate is the number one threat to human life and the environment worldwide.

No change in the Senate, no change in the country's direction. Let's vote out the obstructionist Republican Senators in November.

We can begin with our very own junior senator and the worst of the worst Bush apologist, John Cornyn. While we're at it kick out the turncoat 4th Congressional District Congressman Ralph Hall "I've known (President Bush) since he was a young boy. He's a Godly man. He's a Texan and he was the governor and he's our friend." & Bush on Hall "Ralph is a close friend of the Bush family. He is a well-respected leader of the highest integrity, and a tireless advocate for the people of Texas,"

If you want real change elect the peoples candidates, Rick Noriega & Glenn Melancon.

The New GI Bill

The new GI bill will restore the promise of a cost-free education to those who serve in the military. The old GI Bill has become woefully outdated, to the point where the average benefit doesn't even cover half the cost of an in-state student's education at a public college. With the support of groups like VoteVets.org, 53 cosponsors, including 10 Republicans, three Vietnam War veterans in the Senate and former Secretary of the Navy John Warner, the bill simply updates the old GI bill.

The new GI bill will restore the promise of a cost-free education to those who serve in the military. The original GI Bill transformed American history, providing education for returning soldiers. It not only recognized our nation's moral duty for the enormous sacrifices of our World War II veterans, but it helped create America's middle class & returned between $5 and $13 for every dollar spent on it.

We are duty bond to make sure that our Congressman, Hall & Senators, Hutchinson & Cornyn know that their constituents want this legislation & that they will be held accountable on election day in November if they fail vote for it. If you are a regular visitor to WannaBeBlue you know that the we post blogs about Veterans issue & that we have pointed out the inadequate voting records of Hall, Hutchinson & Cornyn on veteran's issues. Our service men & women deserve a means to make a better life for themselves and their families just as us older veteran's enjoyed. They need & deserve our support. We urge you to support them by contacting our Congressman & Senators and to vote yes on the new GI Bill.

The New GI Bill Needs Our Help

WannaBeBlue.com request that you please sign the petition being circulated by Vote Vet & Brave New Films & then call or email Senators Hutchinson at Hutchison, Kay Bailey- (R - TX)(202) 224-5922 & Cornyn at Cornyn, John- (R - TX) (202) 224-2934 and demand they also support this bill to give our veterans and their families a chance to survive when they return to civilian life.

Dear GI Bill Supporters,

Your response to our GI Bill petition has been overwhelming! Within a week, we collected over 20,000 signatures demanding John McCain co-sponsor the GI Bill for the 21st century. And our film, Why Won't McCain Sign the GI Bill?, received over 76,000 YouTube views. We will be delivering these signatures to Senator McCain on Monday, but before then we need one more push.

Please pass this petition on to your friends and urge them to sign. We need to give our message a little more heft to make sure McCain hears us loud and clear.
If Senator McCain cosponsors the GI Bill, it will signal other Republicans to do the same. The bill now has 51 cosponsors from both parties, and once it gets 60, it will pass to the President's desk. But, to get there, we need your help.
And when we deliver the petition Washington DC this Monday, we want our veterans to be there with us! If any vet wants to join in the delivery, e-mail mailto:info@votevets.org%20subject=Petition. Be sure to write "petition delivery" in the subject line.

Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,

Robert Greenwald and Jon Soltz

ATTENTION ALL DEMOCRATIC DELEGATES AND ALTERNATES

A message from the Texas Democratic Party Chairman

Last Saturday's County and Senatorial District Conventions were a tremendous success, continuing this year's pattern of historic turnout and unprecedented enthusiasm for our two candidates. The Conventions were packed with enthusiastic Democrats, and many of them lasted well into the evening, as Clinton and Obama supporters fought for every last delegate. Now the focus shifts to the upcoming TDP State Democratic Convention, to be held June 5th through 7th in Austin, Texas.I am delighted to announce that I have recommended Senator Kirk Watson of Austin, an Obama supporter, and Senator Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio, a Clinton supporter, to serve as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Convention. Passions will be high at the Convention, but with these two distinguished legislators in charge, I know we can count on a fair and successful process. All signs indicate the incredible grassroots enthusiasm that we have seen over the last few months will continue all the way to the State Convention and beyond. The TDP's reserved block of over 2000 hotel rooms sold out in less than 48 hours as Delegates and Alternates from all across Texas made their arrangements to come to Austin. The TDP is working to secure additional rooms, but if you are a Delegate or Alternate looking to book accommodations in Austin, we recommend you use a site such as Expedia, Travelocity, or Hotels.com.The State Convention is where Texas' delegation to the Democratic National Convention will be selected. If you are interested in being a Delegate or Alternate to the National Convention to nominate the next President of the United States, you need to declare your candidacy by downloading this form, filling it out, and delivering it to the TDP between April 21st and May 21st. You do not even need to be a delegate to the State Convention to be a candidate.
The State Convention will be an exciting event, but Democratic victories aren't won in a convention center, they are won block-by-block, neighborhood-by-neighborhood, over the long months between now and November. Whether or not you're a delegate, we need you to help elect Democrats and move Texas forward by becoming a TDP Neighborhood Volunteer.Neighborhood Volunteers are in charge of reaching out to 25 voters in their area. You will contact them at least three times between now and Election Day, listen to the issues that are important to them, explain how our Democratic candidates can bring about the change we need, and then make sure they come to the polls in November. Over 800 Texans have already signed up to become Neighborhood Volunteers, because they understand that there is no better way to make a difference in 2008.Please become a Neighborhood Volunteer today. I know that working together, we can take Texas back.

Your friend and fellow Democrat,

Boyd L. Richie
Chairman

Is David Petraeus Dirty?

Thanks to WannaBeBlue watcher Dr. Eddie Self of Denison, TX for providing this article by Melina Hussein Ripcoco, Brilliant at Breakfast. The article is lengthy but well written & very informative about what is really going on in Iraq. Thanks again Eddie.

Ted Westhusing, was a champion basketball player at Jenks High School in Tulsa Oklahoma. A driven kid with a strong work ethic, he would show up at the gym at 7AM to throw 100 practice shots before school. He was driven academically too, becoming a National Merritt Scholarship finalist. His career through West Point and straight into overseas service was sterling, and by 2000 he had enrolled in Emory University to earn his doctorate in Philosophy. His dissertation was on honor and the ethics of war, with the opening containing the following passage: "Born to be a warrior, I desire these answers not just for philosophical reasons, but for self-knowledge." Would that all military commanders took such an interest in the study of ethics and morality and what our conduct in times of war says about our development as human beings. Would that any educational system in this country taught ethics, decision making, or even political science that's not part of an advanced degree anymore. click for more

HOLY HIGHWAY?

A great democrat & friend Elizabeth McCarthy found this on line and since the Trans Texas Corridor or the TTC/ NAFTA super highway has been a topic of discussion on WannaBeBlue before you must read her offering below:

This story was first published over a year ago - but it's still an interesting insight into some groups who are supporting the NAFTA superhighway.
It is interesting that all of a sudden Christians like Pat Robertson and others are talking about how I-35 is a holy highway right when there is a major push by the global elite to expand I-35 into the NAFTA superhighway. The expansion of I-35 into the NAFTA superhighway has been a topic of much controversy as it will force people off of their property via way of eminent domain. Leaders like Pat Robertson are attempting to brainwash Christians into believing that I-35 is a holy highway and that because it is a holy highway it is God’s will to take people’s surrounding property in order to expand it. This is a well timed and very diabolical propaganda campaign by some on the Christian right to convince people that the expansion of I-35 into the NAFTA superhighway is a divine undertaking.

HOLY HIGHWAY! from RITCHIOUS RICK PERRY!
