After reading the Article in the Herald Democrat I just had to write a letter to the editor just had to respond and correct the papers omission of the fact that Tony Beaverson speaks for the Grayson County Democrats so this is the letter to the editor I sent online July 15, 2008. I will be surprised if they print it since I took the opportunity to plug the location of our new Headquarters in Sherman, TX. Read the article and write a letter to the editor. Yours could be the open chosen.
In reference to Tuesday’s article, “Commissioners Approve Jail Land Proposal”
Quoting the article, “None of the commissioners voiced any concerns over the proposed land option, one resident did. Tony Beaverson stood up to ask some questions.” I would like to point out that Mr. Tony Beaverson is not just one lone resident when he speaks in public. He represents all of the Democratic voters of Grayson County, since he is their duly elected chairman and therefore the party’s spoke person. The County Judge’s remark, "We know we are not going to please everyone," in response to Mr. Beaverson's repeated call for a public vote. The Judge added, "At the end of the day, the five of us are going to vote on it." To the members of the Commissioners’ Court I say, represent all the citizens of Grayson County not just “you five guys.”
Some have said that the Democratic Party is dead in Grayson County. Not so. Thanks to the leadership of Mr. Beaverson. You only need to walk by, drop in, or drive by 125. N Travis St., Sherman, TX, and see their headquarters office. Commissioners Court would also do well to remember the unprecedented record turnout of Democratic voters in March’s Primary Election. The same is expected in November & it may very well change the makeup of the Commissioners Court.
Why not a public debate and vote on the County Jail design and operation? Tax dollars will pay for it, whether privately or publicly owned and operated. The Court admits they don't know all they would like to know about the answer to design & operational questions. Mr. Beaverson was correct when he said, "You guys must have an awful lot of information that we don't." Maybe that unknown information is the reason why they don’t want a public vote.
