Another Reason to Love Italian Women

Note the date of this article (Feb. 20,2007). I just happen to stumble on to it online at Veterans for Peace http://www.veteransforpeace.org/ today some seven months later. What a great example of how the freedom of the press is becoming a thing of the past. More and more the giant media corporations filter what we see, hear, and know. Thank God for the Internet blogs and organizations like Veterans for Peace & Code Pink Women for Peace or we would be in the dark even more. Censored from important stories that the publisher barons think we should or should not know. The women of Vicenza are standing up against an intrusion into their community by initiating a grassroots peace and social justice movement. They are working to end the war in Iraq, and stop new wars. We should do the same. Where is our outrage? Why are we not taking to the street with signs banking on pots and pans? Where is our bravery?

I lived in Vicenza back in my Army days, having been stationed at Camp Ederle from 1964-1965. The people of Vicenza are generous, kind, and very proud of their beautiful city. For the most part they love America and all things American. I myself fell in love with Italy and all things Italian. So much so that I met and married a beautiful Italian-American lady. Like the women of Vicenza she is kind, generous, brave and ‘una anattivista politico democratico” a democratic political activist. What a lucky guy I am.
